How it all started
The inventory includes alphabets in multiple colors. There also are signs that can be personalized to cater to the celebrants interests or hobbies, or used just to fill out the message.
The letters are used to create messages, such as “Happy Birthday,” “Congratulations,” or “Happy Anniversary.”
Cost start at $89 to have a message placed in a yard. The company charges an extra $15.00 for a destination that is farther than 15 miles from their standard delivery areas.
The messages are set up at night or early morning and remain in someone’s yard for 24 hours which is when they collect the letters and signs, sort them for the next jobs and then set up messages in new yards.
In 2020, Yard Charms was born. Creating a new business during pandemic would appear to be not the smartest business move. But business leaders of Yard Charms, thought it the perfect time to start delivering smiles to their communities. Business was operated out of each of the business owners Tura Wright and Tena Morales-Armstrong’s homes. Business was pretty slow the first couple of months, but that suddenly changed when people found themselves stuck at home in an effort to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
The two went from a few a week to setting up yard signs and decorating yards up to 7 yards at day in the last several months.
“This business has transformed our lives and it is such an honor to help people celebrate”, Tura said.
Starting up
One day Tena’s daughter pitched the yard-sign greeting card idea. The business sets up messages in yards with bright, colored letters with some added flare around the messages, like balloons, hearts, stars, birthday cakes, emojis and other signs.
“It sounded like something fun and creative we would love to do,” Tena said. “We just went all in immediately. We didn’t want to go with one of the corporate franchises, as we wanted to be able to customize our yards in any unique way we saw fit, while putting our own personal spin on the designs. We ordered the inventory, set up the website, and I started trying to promote it through Facebook and other social media”
